You may have already purchased or downloaded OpenType revisions and never deleted the Type 1 version. Check you didn’t update your fonts already years ago: In the early days of OpenType, many foundries offered a transition plan for registered purchasers-sometimes free or at a nominal cost, and sometimes at a slightly offensive price given the actual transition work involved.Once you’ve found your Type 1 fonts, you can make a number of choices on how to proceed: While Type 3 could do almost anything Type 1 could and a lot more it couldn’t, it lacked a feature calling “hinting” that allowed PostScript to render the vector curves and lines of a font effectively at lower resolutions.Ī smart collection in Font Book lets you collect all the active Type 1 fonts on your Mac, as opposed to all those simply present on your drives. Adobe initially reserved Type 1 for itself, and published the Type 3 specification for general use. Apple licensed typefaces both for the Mac and to embed in the Apple LaserWriter, and PageMaker could send PostScript code that produced high-quality output from a printer.Īdobe offered two methods of creating fonts in the mid-1980s, which were obscurely labeled after their internal specifications: Type 1 and Type 3. Apple offered support in its Macs for PostScript typefaces, and Aldus could work with system fonts without any special effort. And QuarkXPress fans: I was one, too! But they weren’t the first mover.)Īdobe’s PostScript fonts and vector technology were the key to unlock the print quality that publications wanted. (WYSIWYG page layout predated Macs, but on expensive, powerful, inflexible systems used in printing plants. Apple’s Macintosh and its operating system provided the first relatively affordable and easy way to engage with WYSIWYG design (what you see is what you get), and Aldus PageMaker provided the earliest effective layout tools. In this case, you will need to contact your hosting provider to ensure the embed code script is not being blocked.Apple, Aldus, and Adobe were colossi who stood arms outstretched above the entrance to the future in the mid-1980s. If you've checked all these steps, yet the font still does not load, it's possible your hosting service is blocking the connection from Adobe. If they do not match, your font will not load. Ensure you are using the SAME system name in your webfont settings as the one Adobe specifies in your Adobe Font kit settings.Check to make sure your kit is still active and that your fonts (including all necessary weights) are in the kit inside of Adobe fonts. If your font is not showing in the editor, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

Troubleshooting My Adobe Font does not load You can repeat these steps as needed for each separate font weight. You should now see your font loaded in Semplice! It's really that simple. The system name MUST match what Adobe specifies, otherwise the font will not load. Under system name, be sure to use the EXACT system name that Adobe specifies in the kit settings from adobe (the same area where you grabbed the embed code). From here, give your font a display name. Once you've added the embed code as a new font resource, click 'Add Webfont'. Note: unlike with self-hosted fonts, you can use the same system name for each font weight with Adobe Fonts Paste your font kit embed from Adobe Fonts into the embed code area here. Make sure the resource type is set to 'Service'. You can then navigate to Customize > Webfonts in Semplice and then under 'Add Resource' create a new font resource. Once you've added the fonts to your project, you'll now see a popup with an embed code for your font kit. If you have too many fonts or font weights, it can add significant load times to your site. Note: this font kit should ONLY contain the fonts and font weights that you intent on using your site. You can then select the font weights you want to use with your site and click the save button. You'll then need to select an existing web project, or create a new one. You can then hover over each font and click the icon (add fonts to web project) button. You can then browse for the fonts that you want included with your Semplice site. To get started, you'll need to login to the Adobe Fonts page. You'll need to create a font kit to load your fonts into Semplice.
